Learn Thai Verb: ชอบ /chɔ̂ɔp/

Hello everybody! How have you been doing?

In this blog we will learn Thai verb, ชอบ /chɔ̂ɔp/

Learn Thai Verb, like, ชอบ

I am really sure that every Thai learner must know this word as the first few words in Thai which means “to like”.

For example:

ผม / ฉันชอบคุณ /pǒm chɔ̂ɔp kun/

I like you.

เราชอบอาหารไทย /rao chɔ̂ɔp aa-hǎan thai/

We like Thai food.

คุณชอบพูดภาษาไทยไหม /kun chɔ̂ɔp pûut paa-sǎa thai mái?/

Do you like to speak Thai?

But the word ชอบ /chɔ̂ɔp/ also has another meaning. It is used to describe when someone repeats doing something many times or always does that thing as their habit.

For example:

ทำไมเขาชอบมาสาย /tam-mai káo chɔ̂ɔp maa sǎai?/

Why does he always come late?

เขาชอบเปลี่ยนใจวินาทีสุดท้าย /káo chɔ̂ɔp bplìan-jai wí-naa-tii sùt-táai/

He/ She always changes his/ her at the last second!

ผม/ ฉันชอบปวดหัวตอนกินกาแฟ /pǒm (chán) chɔ̂ɔp bpùat-hǔa dtɔɔn gin gaa-fɛɛ/

I always have a headache when I drink coffee.

Learn Thai Verb: ไว้ /wái/

  Learn Thai Verb, ไว้

 In this blog we will learn Thai verb, ไว้ /wái/.

 

The verb, ไว้ /wái/ occurs after an action verb or verb phrase, it convey a sense that those verbs are being done for future use.

For example,

ฉันจองตั๋วรถไฟไว้แล้ว

/káo jɔɔng dtǔa rót-fai wái lɛ́ɛw/

= He has booked train ticket already.

ขอฝากกระเป๋าไว้ที่นี่ได้ไหม

/kɔ̌ɔ fàak grà-bpǎo wái tîi-nîi dâi mái?/

= Can I leave my bag here?

แม่ทำอาหารเย็นไว้ให้ลูก

/mɛ̂ɛ tam aa hǎan yen wái hâi lûuk-lûuk/

= Mother cooked/prepared dinner for children.

Learn Thai Verbs : bpen /เป็น / Can .

เป็น/pben / Can     Sawat dii ka, Hi everyone. I’m quite sure that you may already know about how to ask question “Can you do something ? in   Thai language as “ ….dâai má /ได้ไหม ? “ But in this online Thai lesson I will show you the other way to ask as the same question.

                                                         Q      : Subject + Verb + bpen mái ? /Verb เป็นไหม ? / Can you …. ?

                                                          Ans :   bpen /เป็น             = can

                                                                     mâi bpen /ไม่เป็น = cannot

                   Example :

                             1.Kun kàp-rót bpen mái ká ?

                               คุณขับรถเป็นไหมคะ ?

                               Can you drive a car ?

                           2. kun pûu Thai bpen mái ká ?

                               คุณพูดไทยเป็นไหมคะ ?

                                Can you speak Thai ?

Learn Thai:Verb of emotion with”tîi”

Verb of emotion (‘to be angry ,sorry,excited’,etc.) are generally followed by tîi+ Subordinate Cluse .” tîi” is similar in function to English “that” (sorry that, angry that, happy that) ,but unlike ‘that’ which is optional in English, tîi is compulsory:

 Here are some Verb of emotions:            

sǐa-jai                = sorry                                          

sâo                      = sad                                      angry groot โกรธ                 

dtèun-dten       = excited                         

gròot                = angry 

For example:

1.chán sǐa- jai tîi mâi dîi bpai.

ฉันเสียใจที่ไม่ได้ไป

I am sorry that I didn’t go.

2.káo gròot tîi chán maa sǎai.

เขาโกรธที่ฉันมาสาย

He angry that I came late.

3.rao dtèun-dten  tîi ja bpai tíaw tá-lee.

เราตื่นเต้นที่จะไปเที่ยวทะเล

We are excited  that we are going to the beach.

Learn Thai : Verb to be in Thai – Bpen and yùu/ เป็น,อยู่

Sa-wat-dii ka ,How was your Songkran holiday? I hope everyone enjoy playing with water. In this blog online Thai lesson we are going to learn about how to use “ verb to be “ in Thai.

1.verb to be + noun(human) =’’ bpen’’  which means to be something

For example: chán bpen kon Thai          I am Thai.         ฉันเป็นคนไทย

Learning Thai with us

*Negative of “bpen” is “ mâi châi”

For example: chán mâi châi kon Thai    I am not Thai.    ฉันไม่ใช่คนไทย

káo mâi châi nák-rian        He is not a student.  เขาไม่ใช่นักเรียน

** Remember!! In Thai we don’t use Verb to be with Adjective.

For example: He is very handsome = káo lɔ̀ɔ mâak mâak   เขาหล่อมาก มาก

 ( We don’t say káo bpen lɔ̀ɔ mâak mâak )

2.Verb to be +prepositions+places = ‘’ yùu’’ which means to be somewhere

For example: pîi-chaai kɔɔng chán yùu tîi bprà-teet yîi bpùn.

My older brother live in Japan.

พี่ชายของฉันอยู่ที่ประเทศญี่ปุ่น

bɔ-rì-sàt kɔɔng pǒm yùu tîi Grung-teep.

   My office is in Bangkok.

บริษัทของผมอยู่ที่กรุงเทพฯ

Negative of “ yùu “ is “mâi yùu “

For example: chán mâi yùu bâan     Im not at home.  ฉันไม่อยู่บ้าน
